World Café
In this method, learners talk in different groups about specific problems or questions. The aim is to get them talking to each other as easily as possible, just like in a cafe.

Instruction
- The teacher explains the question(s)/problem(s) or the group itself agrees on a specific question (or a maximum of three different questions) or decides which objectives are to be achieved by the discussions at the end. Possible questions are: What topic do we want to explore? What should we do differently in the next work phase? How do we want to research topic XY?
- The teacher divides the students into three to five groups, depending on the size of the group. Ideally, there should be no more than five students in a group.
- There is a host for each group table. This student remains at this table for the entire time and has the task of moderating the discussion, summarizing what has been said and, if necessary, providing new impulses.
- Each group now has ten to 15 minutes to discuss the given question(s). Everyone should write down the most important aspects.
- When the time is up, the groups change. The teacher completely rearranges the groups. Only the hosts have fixed positions. Their task is to keep informing the new groups about the last discussion and to get the conversation going again.
- This process is repeated as often as required.
- At the end, all students conduct a reflection round together. Here, all participants have the opportunity to explain what they particularly remember or what they found particularly good or bad. In this step, the students should also agree on a result depending on the question – for example, which topic they want to investigate.
Variations
World Café with recorders
In addition to the hosts, the position of recorders can also be introduced. They also remain at one table for the entire time and take notes of the most important aspects and opinions. This means that the other students do not have to take notes, or do so less.
